2019 Dodge Challenger T/A is an Homage to the Iconic 1970s Trans-American Muscle Car
Drawing from the brand’s strong racing heritage, the 2019 Dodge Challenger T/A is an homage to the iconic 1970 Challenger T/A (Trans-America), a limited-edition homologation street version of the race car built for the Sports Car Club of America's Trans American Sedan Championship.
Based on the high-performance 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T platform, featuring Dodge’s mighty 5.7-litre HEMI® V8, the 2019 Challenger T/A features an exclusive range of unique design and heritage cues that set it apart as a true collector’s edition.
Iconic exterior styling, racing heritage
In profile, the 2019 Challenger T/A’s signature muscle car proportions stand out from the crowd, while fender and belt lines tie together at the front and rear of the car to create a sleeker appearance. The aesthetically designed rear valance provides the 2019 Challenger with a widened, more planted appearance for a high-performance finished look.
From the outside, the design cues from the original 1970s Challenger T/A are instantly recognisable. The Black Satin Painted Hood, Satin Black Wrapped Roof and Decklid, Gloss Black Grille with classic Challenger Script Badge and T/A Bodyside Graphics are the most obvious stylistic tips to the iconic muscle car of the 1970s.
The performance cues come from the prominent hood scoop and Illuminated Air-Catcher® Headlamps, which feed the MOPAR Cold Air Intake System that ensures outstanding performance in all driving conditions, as well as the Satin Black Rear Spoiler with the exclusive T/A spoiler decal. Rounding off the tribute with modern-day aesthetics are the eye-catching 20-inch x 9-inch Low-Gloss Forged Aluminium Wheels.
As with any homage to a classic muscle car based on a street racing machine, performance must match the pedigree, which is why this MY19 limited T/A edition is based on the high-performance platform of the 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T. Boasting Dodge’s awesomely powerful 5.7-litre HEMI® V8 MDS VVT engine, the Challenger T/A is capable of an output of 370HP through the efficient 8-speed automatic transmission.
Absolute control is afforded by the leather-wrapped Performance Steering Wheel, which features a sculpted rim so that the driver’s hands have a sure grip at the 2- and 10-o’clock positions, while the sports paddle shifters, which come as standard on the Challenger T/A, are located on the backs of the upper spokes. Exceptional road handling is provided by the Sports Suspension and the 245/45ZR20 BSW performance tires.
Race-inspired, high-performance interior
The 2019 Dodge Challenger boasts an all-new enthusiast designed performance cockpit featuring world-class materials, execution and technology. Exclusive to the 2019 Challenger T/A are the retro-styled White Face Instrument Cluster and Gloss Black Instrument Cluster Trim Rings that echo the design cues of the 1970 Challenger T/A.
The gauge cluster features an analogue speedometer and tachometer that straddle the TFT customisable instrument cluster and provide a heritage-inspired “tic-toc-tach” look with throwback radial numbering and concave shape. The centre stack also neatly houses the segment’s largest available 8.4-inch (213.36 mm) Uconnect™ touchscreens.
A new trapezoidal shaped aluminium-stamped high-sill centre console gives the 2019 Dodge Challenger’s interior a fresh, asymmetric look, while the leather-wrapped surface and French-seamed accent stitching exudes craftsmanship and style.
And finally, the 2019 Dodge Challenger T/A features exclusive T/A logo seats in Nappa leather with Alcantara Suede, with large side bolsters for maximum lateral support in hard cornering. For improved comfort and convenience, ventilated front seats come as standard on the Challenger T/A.
Technology features include the latest Uconnect system
The 2019 Dodge Challenger T/A delivers a slew of high-tech features for the ultimate driving experience. The Challenger’s standard navigation system accommodates one-step voice-controlled destination entry and enhanced 3D navigation map graphics, making it simple for drivers to recognise where they are and where they need to go. The 8.4-inch (213.36mm) touchscreen is also 29 percent larger than its predecessor.
Through the all-new Dodge Performance Pages available on the 8.4-inch (213.36mm) Uconnect™ touchscreen, Challenger drivers can reduce shift times from approximately 400 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds, increase engine and throttle responsiveness, adjust electronic stability control (ESC) settings and firm up the steering feel. Additionally, the system includes active launch control, launch control RPM settings, performance timers and performance gauges, such as G-force indicators and engine performance.
Upgrades add blind spot monitoring to the Challenger’s list of 70-plus safety and security features
Additional protection and accident-avoidance assistance includes Blind-spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path Detection. Blind-spot Monitoring provides an alert if a vehicle is in an adjacent lane and audibly chimes to warn the driver.
